VA043 Livio & Roby – Shinichi EP

After their Vakant debut in 2011, exactly one year later the Romanian duo Livio & Roby is back with their latest creation for the label. ‘Shinichi’, Hatzumoto’s little sister for the ones who know, is a classic 3 track EP, with 2 A-side cuts in unmistakeble romanian tech manner, raw, driving and twisted as only inhabitants of the Carpathian Mountains can deliver. On the flip you’ll find ‘Just Us’, Livio & Roby’s more deep approach on modern electronic music and the perfect appendix for this EP.

From initiating the first studio sessions back in 2004, Livio & Roby are one of the foremost proponents of groove laden house, fast becoming ambassadors of deep funk-blended tech-house on some of the leading labels in the scene as well as controlling the dance floors of techno playgrounds around the world.

Riding high on the techno scene’s recent climate change with grooves that twist and turn each bar yet never loose the consistent grasping control over your body’s lower torso; Livio and Roby have been producing percussive promp- ted beats with a natural European zest long before the majority of today’s techno dj’s ripped back the parched elec- tronic layer to reveal a more organic house sound. Displaying exceptional production skills, early releases and remixes appeared on Lawler’s Global Underground “Lights out 3″ and “Viva” compilations.

On top of clearly knowing their way around a pair of turntables, 2007 followed with releases thick and fast; the classic simplicity of their gritty underground sound, assembled into increasingly energetic tracks made Livio and Roby one of the most visible names of the deep house resurgence.

2008 saw the pair share the turntables alongside Loco Dice in Romania resulting in the ultimate testament to their musical talent. Dice welcomed Livio and Roby into his community of creativeness, promptly inviting then to join both his booking agency Artist Alife and much applauded label Desolat where they went on to release “Mistique” in colla- boration with their pal George G. From their early appearance in the booth with Loco Dice and Martin Buttich at Cocoons Ibiza residency to recent singles on Nick Curly’s Cecille imprint, the two Romania producers have built quite a reputation for themselves that really justifies the heavy hype that’s been surrounding them of late.
Labels including Viva Music, Cecille and Loco Dice’s eminent Desolat have welcomed the deep duo to explore a now signature sound, that’s awash in the beats that made many of us fall for house in the first place. Exercising their persistent reference to a winning Chicago and Detroit compound, sitting on the deep, percussive side of house has earned them their respected place in the often tangled and disjointed electronic scene.

Livio & Roby have taken 2010 by the horns, participating in the Desolat US Bus Tour earlier this year alongside Loco Dice and Martin Buttrich, winning the “nights.ro Awars” as “Best Underground Music Project” and are ready to blast back into your consciousness with their fresh new material.

VA Podcast 08 – Livio & Roby’s Trippin’ In A House Mode Mix

To follow up their debut ‘moduri ep’ on the label, the Romanian DJ and producer duo Livio & Roby is held responsible for the latest session of the Vakant podcast series. Deep and twisted in sound, they deliver a set for the late or very early hours of the day.

VA035 Livio & Roby – Moduri EP

To kick off 2011 Vakant presents Romanian rising stars Livio & Roby, the first new artists to join the label since 2008. After cutting their teeth on some of the biggest labels and world stages, Livio & Roby impart their excellent deep funk laden grooves on their first record for the perfectionist House of Vakant.

A side ‘Hatzumoto Song’ is nothing short of a siren song seducing any passerby or dance floor reveler, ship wrecking them on Livio & Roby’s divine private island. Deeply organic yet firmly routed in tech funk, the track floats effortlessly across time and dimension with perfectly sculpted groove and ambience.

Gracing the B side ‘Moduri’ picks things up a bit with a classic upbeat – downbeat house rhythm while strange and eluding synths carry Livio & Roby’s now signature flow of musical zest and smile inducing body motivation.
Finally the digital only ‘Resoftescu’ completes the 35th installment of Vakant’s life companion series with the push-pull of dark moody synths and uplifting acoustic piano chords. Combined with the steady cadence of tasteful percussion, the sounds melt to produce a gliding mélange of soothing beauty.
